Korean Wave fever hits Egypt: K-Pop and K-Drama getting Popularity

While Korean Wave(한류/ Hallyu) fever is happening in Europe, it also has been taking place in Egypt.

Egypt Daily newspaper 'Al-Masry Al-Youm' internet version reported on July 22 about an impact of Korean culture such as K-Pop on Egypt including the capital, Cairo. It is unusual that the Arab media focuses to South Korea's Culture only.

The newspaper explained Korean Wave that receives attention from worldwide, and reported Korean movie, music, and food has become a popular in Cairo. And the newspaper also said Egyptian had difficulty to access Korean culture in the past, but now, it's much easier for some of broadcasters airing programs and the Internet development, citing Korean pop group 'Superjunior' and Korean drama 'Secret Garden'. A fan of Korean wave said "When I met Korean music and drama, it attracted me strongly more than Egypt and American culture."

The newspaper reported that Dar al-Kotob Public Library in Cairo furnishes with more than 4,000 Korean books and DVD and acts the part of the bridge between Korea and Egypt.

The 1st K-Pop Singing Contest in Iron, Maadi will be held for the first time in the Middle East on July 28.
