Gangnam Tourist Attractions and Tour Map with Hotel Infomation: around Rodeo Drive in Apkujung and Cheongdam Fashion Street

Rodeo Drive in Apkujung

The name of the Apkujung-dong is derived from the pavilion named Apkujung that was built in the Chosun Dynasty. The meaning of ‘Apku’ is that “Living around a river after forsaking the world, and getting along with seagull friendly”.

A rodeo was orignally a contest held after a cattle roundup, with cowboys competing against each other in contests such as horse racing, steer riding, and calf roping, and in the USA, there’s the "Rodeo Drive", the world-renowned fashion streets, in Beverly Hills.

Part of the downtown area of Apgujeong-dong is commonly called Rodeo Drive and it is supposed to be modeled on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Rodeo Drive in Apkujung had become a main fashion street in Gangnam in the 1990s, and this area is known as a haven for young people for moving away from the value or order of the existing.

The streets of the Apgujung rodeo are lined with vendors selling dduk-bok-ki and odeng and there are also lots of discount stores dotted around Rodeo street.
