CJ E&M, K-Culture festival KCON which held in Japan with 6.8 thousand people reconfirming Korean style boom



KCON is a K-Culture festival that CJ E&M has advanced in Japan. A hundred and eight thousand spectators gathered here. KCON was held in Japan for the first time in 2015. At this time the audience was about 15,000 people. The number of spectators has increased about 4.5 times. With this, it can be inferred the Korean style boom in Japan.

CJ E&M held KCON at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Japan. KCON was held every day from 10am to 6pm. In this event, 187 programs were held to enjoy various Korean living cultures such as beauty, fashion, and cooking. Cooking experience of Cheese Spicy Stir-fried Chicken, learning Hangeul which can be used on SNS, learning Korean makeup and fashion are gaining great popularity in Japan. There were places for experiences of K-Culture with various other themes as well as events of this kind.

Fifteen YouTube creators who are popular in Korea and Japan also played an active part in this event. Recent teenagers are accustomed to SNS such as YouTube. With this generation, Youtube creators tried to communicate with fans with various themes such as beauty, life, and K pop. And they did live broadcast these things on YouTube.

CJ E&M arranged Korean SMEs, which are popular among Japanese customers, to participate in this event. Manufacturers of beauty products such as cosmetics mainly participated.

K pop concert ‘M countdown’ was held every night. 28 famous K-Pop stars such as Wanna One, SEVENTEEN, TWICE and 28 teams appeared. Tickets for M countdown concerts all sold out at all seats as soon as advance sale opens. This is a cornerstone of the fans' feverish interest in KCON.

An official of CJ E&M said, "The number of young people who prefer KCON is increasing, and I feel that interest in Korea is extended to K-lifestyle such as beauty, fashion and food culture." And he added "We will continue investing and making efforts to expand Korean culture and to make Korean culture mainstream culture to the whole world”.
